The 2014 Texas gubernatorial election was held on November 4, 2014, to elect the Governor of Texas. This was the first open election for governor since 1990. Incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry, who had served in the office since December 21, 2000, earlier announced that he would not run for an unprecedented fourth full term as governor. The election took place between nominees who were selected on March 4, 2014: Republican State Attorney General Greg Abbott and Democratic State Senator Wendy Davis. The ballot also featured Libertarian Party candidate Kathie Glass〔(【引用サイトリンク】 title=2014 Statewide Offices List )〕 and Green Party candidate Brandon Parmer.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Green Party of Texas - Peace * Justice * Democracy * Ecology )〕 Abbott was projected to carry the election, and ultimately won handily with a 20 percentage point advantage.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Up and down the ballot, a night of dominance for GOP in Texas and in Harris County )〕 Exit polls showed Abbott winning Whites (73% to 26%), while Davis received majorities among African Americans (92% to 7%) and Latinos (55% to 44%).〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=2014 Exit Polls - Politics - Fox News )〕 According to exit polls she only received 47% of the women voters in Texas. In reference to how well her campaign was run, Chris Cillizza of the ''Washington Post'' stated that "Wendy Davis was, by any measure, a massive disappointment" by receiving less than 40 percent of the vote in Texas.〔Cillizza, Chris.
